The Australian Regional Tourism Board announced yesterday that Devonport will be hosting the 2019 Convention to be held from Monday 21 – Wednesday 23 October. This is a fantastic result for Tasmania and a great example of Business Events Tasmania (BET) working with key stakeholders to win business into the state.
Following her attendance at the 2018 Convention in Tweed Heads, BET’s Manager of Trade and Strategic Alliances; Krystal James commenced the push for the 2019 event to come to regional Tasmania. Working with the Cradle Coast Authority, BET led the bidding process which included hosting the ART’s Chief Executive Officer for a three-day famil in the region earlier this year.
The ART convention is a must-attend event for local councils, regional tourism organisations, tourism professionals and business and government personnel who wish to contribute to the future of regional tourism in Australia. The event will showcase first-hand Tasmanian regional tourism in operation, using local speakers wherever possible and also including pre-convention tours for delegates.
The convention will be held at the paranaple convention centre with Devonport’s Quality Hotel Gateway taking much of the attendee accommodation. With around 150 delegates expected, the event will inject approximately $250,000 into the local economy as well as the intangible benefits of conferencing including the promotion of cultural exchange, boosting productivity, fostering innovation and nurturing research collaboration.
