Tasmania’s appeal as a business events destination is due to increase further with Virgin Australia yesterday announcing it will commence direct flights between Hobart and Perth in September.

This will become the only direct service between the two cities and will provide more travel options for conference and business events delegates coming to Hobart. Travel time will be reduced by up to three hours.

The service will commence on 17 September 2018, operating three days per week on a year-round basis, and will add more than 54,000 direct seats a year into Tasmania’s travel market.

Business Events Tasmania CEO Marnie Craig welcomed the announcement, saying ‘the increase of direct flights to Hobart from any Australian capital city is great news for the industry in Tasmania.

‘We’re excited to now be able to offer direct Perth to Hobart flights and we hope that Western Australian event planners and delegates will see that Tasmania is increasingly accessible.’

‘This announcement, coupled with direct Qantas flights from London-Perth, is sure to bring an increase in international delegates to Hobart,’ said Craig

The new service is great news for travellers and a welcome confirmation of Virgin Australia’s continued confidence in Tasmania as a premium destination.
